There’s something unforgettable about the quiet of the mountains after sunset. The trails empty out. The cold sharpens. The moon casts long shadows over the snow. If you’ve ever wanted to explore Winter Park in a way most visitors never do, the Moonlit Uphill Events are your chance.
This isn’t your typical ski run. These night events bring you up the mountain on your own power, under the stars, guided by the soft light of the moon and your own headlamp. It’s part challenge, part meditation, and all magic.
What Is Moonlit Uphill?
Moonlit Uphill is a guided nighttime ascent of the Winter Park slopes. You gear up at the Adventure Concierge, located at 115 Parry Peak Way. One of the resort’s event guides will set you up with everything you need. Skis. Skins. Poles. And most important of all—a headlamp for your downhill cruise back to the base.
The experience is designed for intermediate skiers who are comfortable handling uphill movement on skis and making their way down on familiar terrain in low light. It’s not an intense endurance race. It’s an active journey into the peaceful, snow-covered wild that surrounds Winter Park after dark.
There’s no rush to the top. Instead, you move at a steady pace with your group, lit by the moon and a handful of quiet conversations. When you reach the summit, you get a unique moment of stillness few others will experience. No lift lines. No music playing. Just you, the stars, and the satisfaction of the climb.
2025 Event Dates to Choose From
There are three opportunities to join a Moonlit Uphill this season. Mark these dates, or better yet, plan for all three:
January 11, 2025
Kick off the year with a fresh challenge. January nights are crisp, and the snowpack is solid. It’s a great time for your first uphill adventure.
February 15, 2025
A mid-season outing for those who want a more relaxed pace in milder conditions. Ideal for couples looking to do something special or friends aiming to share a story they’ll talk about for years.
March 15, 2025
As the season begins to wind down, this final Moonlit Uphill offers the warmest temps and a perfect wrap-up to a winter well spent. It’s also a great option for spring break visitors who want more than just typical ski days.
Each event runs from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM, giving you a solid two hours of mountain time. Enough to climb, rest, soak in the view, and head back down before the cold settles in too deep.
What You Need to Know Before You Go
This event is guided and supported, so you don’t need to be an expert, but you do need to be ready. An intermediate skill level is required, and that means comfort with basic ski touring or uphill movement. If this is your first time trying it, don’t worry—the guides are there to help. Just let them know, and they’ll keep you safe and supported the entire way.
Headlamps are provided, and they make a big difference. The trail may be lit by the moon, but your path down is yours to light. Dress in layers, bring water, and be ready to move. The more prepared you are, the more you’ll enjoy the moment.
This is not just about skiing. It’s about reconnecting with the outdoors and with yourself. You’ll feel the burn in your legs, sure—but you’ll also feel your mind quieting with each step upward. These events are the kind of moments that stay with you long after you’re back at the base.
After the Climb, Come Home to The Jabberwocky
There’s no better way to end your night than returning to a space that matches the calm and wonder of what you just experienced. The Jabberwocky is your perfect base. It’s not just a place to sleep—it’s a part of the journey. Cozy, inviting, and just close enough to Winter Park Resort to feel like you never left the adventure behind.
