Planning a trip to Winter Park and the Fraser Valley

Ski weeks, summer getaways, and longer family stays — what each season brings to the valley, how to get here, and where to make your base.

Grand Lake and the Rocky Mountains in autumn near Fraser, Colorado

Winter Park and Fraser share the Fraser Valley in Grand County, Colorado, about 67 miles from Denver. Winter brings one of the top ski resorts in North America; summer and fall bring singletrack, rivers, and golf at altitude. The Jabberwocky — a three-bedroom, three-bath condo in Fraser that sleeps ten — is a year-round base for all of it.

Winter: ski weeks and snow days

Winter Park Resort is the draw: alpine skiing and snowboarding at one of the top resorts in North America, about fifteen minutes from the condo by car — or ride the free ski shuttle that stops at the parking lot.

Off the lifts, the valley keeps going all winter, with Nordic skiing, snowshoeing, snowmobiling, dog sledding, and sleigh rides. Back at the condo, a gas fireplace and a shared hot tub in a cedar gazebo are waiting at the end of the day.

Summer and fall: trails, rivers, and long light

When the snow melts, the mountain turns to bikes: Trestle Bike Park is the largest full-service downhill bike park in the USA. Around the valley there's hiking, fishing, wildlife viewing, white-water rafting, and four golf courses across Grand County.

Evenings belong to the timber deck — seating for four and a large electric grill under a pergola, with the forest going quiet around you.

The condo is minutes from four world-class spas, and the valley's calendar fills with festivals, concerts, rodeos, and holiday happenings. The Fraser Valley Journal keeps track of what's coming up, with links to the official sources.

Staying a week or longer

A longer family stay works best in a home rather than a hotel room. The Jabberwocky has three bedrooms and three baths for up to ten — two king bedrooms for the grown-ups and a bunk room that sleeps up to six kids — with a fully equipped kitchen for real meals, fast Wi-Fi, and a great room with space for everyone.

Stays of seven nights or more get a weekly discount, and the building has a shared laundry room with coin-operated washers and dryers, so you can pack lighter.

  • Weekly discount on stays of 7+ nights
  • Shared coin-op laundry in the building
  • Full kitchen with all-new appliances
  • Sleeps up to 10 across 3 bedrooms / 3 baths
